Latex-minimal environment
Latex-free office environments, in a non-hospital environment,
are difficult if not impossible to maintain. As long as we
have no control over clothing of patients, delivery people,
and other service providers, and items they may be carrying,
we cannot make claims of “latex-free”.
However, there are other ways to reduce potential exposure
to latex in our environment; from non-latex “elastics
for orthodontics, to silicon rubber stoppers in our anesthetics,
acrylic erasers, and non-latex adhesives. We have been able
to maintain this environment for over a decade. Those patients
who are latex sensitive have given us an “A” report
card as they have not had symptoms develop as a reaction to
any latent latex in the immediate environment.
Dr. Babiec has published and lectured to various state meetings
about this issue. It’s one more way that we really care
about our patients and each other.
